Alessandra Aita
Alessandra Aita’s art is born out of the silence of matter: a profound listening, a dialogue between what has been and what is yet to come. Wood, the central element of her aesthetic and spiritual exploration, carries a story within it. The fragments that the artist gathers from the banks of the River Tagliamento have been transformed by water, time and the elements. Worn down, eroded, reduced to the bare essentials, they retain on their surface the traces of a time already lived.
Aita does not impose a form upon the material, but listens to it. She follows the grain, accommodates the fractures, and enhances the imperfections. The wood thus becomes not merely the material of the work, but a true co-creator.
From the material emerge forms that seem to bear the experiences of existence upon their skin: fragility, solitude, resilience, the need for connection. Far removed from any idealisation, they are figures of the inner self that wait, question and reach out towards another place. Light, the other constant in her work, permeates these forms: it is not decoration, but a vital principle. ‘It does not adorn the soul, but reveals its profound beauty,’ states the artist.
